The day is earmarked to recognize and affirm the role of women in achieving the political freedom of Africa and advancing the social and economic status of women on the continent.
This year’s celebration is under the theme, “African Women in Arts, Culture and Heritage.
The theme has been inspired by the AU Agenda 2063’s aspiration number 5, which among other factors looks at strengthening the African cultural identity, values and ethics as a critical factor for Africa’s emergence on the global stage
Africa’s Women’s Day also offers a national, continental and global opportunity to recall and affirm the significant role of African women in the evolution of a strong Pan-African identity, with shared values.
It also looks at women as key contributors towards achievement of Africa’s inclusive growth and sustainable development agenda.
Malewezi’s participation comes as the organisers intend on giving greater visibility to various cultural and creative industries in line with this year’s theme.
