Record 227 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours

Covid-19 cases continue to rise as the country has hit  a new record of 227 positive cases in the last 24 hours.

This is according to the daily update from the presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 which has been signed by Co-Chairperson, John Phuka.

212 cases out of the 227 are locally transmitted infections while 15 are imported infections.

Blantyre remains a hotspot as it recorded 80 cases while 46 are from Lilongwe, 22 from Zomba, 19 from Mzimba North, 14 from Salima, 11 from Thyolo, and six health care workers from Kasungu.

The daily update further shows 34 new recoveries, and no new deaths.

Cumulatively, Malawi has recorded 7,337 cases including 199 deaths.

Of these cases, 1,577 are imported infections and 5,760 are locally transmitted.

Recently, the Co-Chairperson of the taskforce who is also minister of health, Khumbize Chiponda encouraged people to continue following all the Covid-19 preventive measures.
