Same old song for the Junior Flames

Malawi Under-20 have repeated what their U-17 counterparts did at the COSAFA Youth Championship by being booted out of the tournament in group stages.

The U-20’s early exit came yesterday after the boys lost to Zambia by 2 goals to nil.

Jimmy Mukeya scored all the goals for the Chipolopolo side, with the first one hitting the back of the net 21 minutes into the game.

Mukeya did it again in the second half at 67 minutes.

In Group B, Malawi have finished third with 3 points out of 3 games.

So far, teams that have qualified to the semi-final stage are Mozambique and Angola from group A and C respectively.

From group B, Zambia and Nambia have all qualified with the latter going as the best loser.

Patrick Mabedi’s side will now be returning home hoping to get back to the drawing board for other tournaments to come, if not another COSAFA edition next year or there about.

Mabedi had earlier promised to bring glory to the game, when he was leaving for the challenge in Port Elizabeth earlier.

Meanwhile, fans have taken their anger and frustration to social media over Malawi’s continued poor performance in all categories.
