Yolanda Katsonga-Phiri to host 2020 UMP Awards

Organisers of the Urban Music People-UMP have named this year’s host for the awards gala slated for next week Saturday, at the Bingu International Conference Centre-BICC in Lilongwe.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the UMP has announced that they have settled for Yolanda Katsonga-Phiri as a host for this year’s Awards.

“I will bring something new; a fresh face, the excitement so people walk away having the wow effect, not only of the performances, and of course the awards and the winners but also the presentations as a whole,” hints the new host.

Yolanda, a former radio personality,  is also an entrepreneur.

She describes herself as a person full of energy and somebody who loves to entertain masses.

The UMP is this year also set give honorary awards  to model cum fashion entrepreneur Mabel, musician Wendy Harawa and former Pageant Manager Carver Bhima.

However, due to the novel coronavirus, some changes have been made to this year’s red carpet event.

The event is therefore expected to be beamed live on Mibawa TV and online, with a Watch Party at Blues in Blantyre and a yet to be named venue in Mzuzu.

Some of the artist that are lined up perform during the gala, include Salama Dancers, Phyzix, Marko Sadik, McLuther, Lulu, Wendy, RJ the DJ and DJ West among others.

This year’s UMP awards will incorporate music, fashion and media at the same time.
